The Hong Kong prize is a non-governmental merit-based award for innovation. It is open to individuals and groups in the fields of scientific and technological innovation in Hong Kong.

What: This is an annual competition sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited to encourage young people to devote themselves to scientific and technological research. The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize is administered by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation (HKATI).

Who: This prize is given to scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, artists and other innovators who are doing extraordinary things in the field of science and technology. The prize is awarded for a wide variety of contributions, including but not limited to Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Life and Health, New Materials and New Energy, Advanced Manufacturing, FinTech and other areas.

Applicants can be from any country in the world. Those whose nomination is selected will receive an official Certificate of Excellence and the winning entry will be published in the BOCHK newsletter.

How: To enter the competition, individuals must submit an online application by March 31. The application will be reviewed by a panel of judges. The panel will select five nominees for each category. Each of the five nominees will be invited to submit a video, with the panel’s approval, for consideration in the final round of voting.

Which: The winner will receive HK$3 million and will be announced in June. In addition, the winners will be invited to Hong Kong for a reception and award ceremony in October.

Why: In addition to celebrating the winners’ achievements, this prize will also help them to make new connections and develop their careers in Hong Kong. The winners will also be offered free participation in some large-scale local ICT events to promote their brand and products.

Where: The winners will be invited to attend a special event at the HK Academy of the Humanities and receive a certificate and a monetary prize. They will also be invited to a lecture on their research by a member of the academy.

What: This is an annual prize given to a humanities scholar who is at an early stage in their career. The Hong Kong Academy of the Humanities awards the First Book Prize for the best-submitted manuscript by a humanities fellow in their first year of study or within their first five years of research.

Who: This is an annual competition for early-career humanities scholars who are at an early stage in their career. The award is given to the best-submitted manuscript of a humanities monograph, published or under contract with a recognized academic press.

Why: In addition to celebrating early-career accomplishment, the award will help early-career scholars gain a foothold in the academic world and establish their credibility among colleagues. The Hong Kong Academy of the Humanities is committed to providing opportunities for early-career scholars to progress their research and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the humanities in Hong Kong.
