The Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award is a prize for unpublished manuscripts of Jewish fiction targeting young readers aged 8-13 years. Founded in 1985, this award has helped aspiring authors of Jewish children’s literature gain publishing experience and the prestige that comes with it. The prize is open to writers who are not yet published and includes a cash award of $1000. The manuscript must have a universal appeal for a wide audience and be able to reveal positive aspects of Jewish life.

The prize is administered by the Sydney Taylor Society, a nonprofit organization in Toronto, Canada, that supports literary arts. It was created by Sydney Taylor’s husband, Ralph, to encourage aspiring Jewish authors of children’s fiction. It has been given to a number of outstanding authors of children’s books, many of whom have been published later in their careers.

This year’s finalists are a diverse group of writers from around the world who have exhibited a dedication to the genre and a willingness to try new and innovative approaches to their writing. The judges will select a winner from these finalists and award them with the award. The sdy prize will be awarded at the next meeting of the Sydney Taylor Society.

Structural Dynamics congratulates the winners of the Judith Flippen-Anderson Memorial Structural Dynamics Poster Prize, jointly sponsored by the journal and the ACA, for their poster “Disorder in Deoxycholic Acid Inclusion Compounds: a Solid State NMR & Crystallographic Study.” This work was presented at the Spring Meeting of the British Crystallographic Association held April 15-18 in Nottingham, UK. The journal gratefully acknowledges John Helliwell, Igor Levin, and Nori Yasuoka as members of the prize selection committee.

In addition, Structural Dynamics welcomes Toshinori Suzuki as an Editorial Board Member and congratulates Majed Chergui on his ACS Ahmed Zewail Award in Ultrafast Science & Technology. His research in x-ray and neutron scattering, with applications to the development of Laue methods and time-resolved techniques for protein crystallography, has been described as “a true pioneer in ultrafast science.”

Natus Vincere head coach B1ad3 announced today that the Ukrainian Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team will continue playing with stand-in player Viktor “sdy” Orudzhev. The 25-year-old was brought in by the organization last season as a replacement for IGL Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhaylov, and played a role in NAVI’s victory at BLAST Premier: Spring Finals 2022.

NaVi won the tournament, bringing home $200,000 and a spot in the World Final. But they were defeated in a marathon grand final against FaZe Clan.

NAVI coach B1ad3 criticized sdy’s performance and development, saying that he needs to improve his reactions and in-game decision-making. He also praised sdy’s support for his teammates and his ability to play with aggression, despite a lack of natural ability in this area.

The 25-year-old CS:GO pro will remain on the roster until June and the team will evaluate his performances after that. He will then decide if he wants to return for the IEM Cologne 2022 tournament.
