The hongkong prize is the highest award in Hong Kong, awarded to individuals who have made a significant contribution to human civilization and are dedicated to building a harmonious society. Presented annually, the winners exemplify the Hong Kong spirit even in challenging times and act as honorable ambassadors of their city. The winner receives a cash prize, trophy and free admission to an awards ceremony and reception in the evening.
The Hong Kong Prize is one of Asia’s premier prizes, drawing thousands of applicants each year. The non-governmental merit-based award recognizes scientists whose groundbreaking scientific contributions have significant social benefits, including a positive impact on the lives of people in Hong Kong. In addition to monetary prizes, winners also gain access to Hong Kong’s premier research facilities. Many finalists have even risked their lives for their work, such as the scientists who developed liquid biopsy technologies.
This year’s prize is based on the theme of “Colours of humanity”, and the winning entry will be selected by a panel of judges from the Goethe-Gallery & Black Box Studio, a local non-profit art space that aims to promote artistic dialogues and discussions. A total of HK$300,000 will be shared among the winning entries and their schools.
A new feature of this year’s Hong Kong Prize is a video interview with each of the top 10 finalists, which will be posted on the official website of the competition. The videos will provide more in-depth information about each of the finalists and their research projects. The prize is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their talents and get their work noticed by the community.
In the event that a submission is deemed to be of exceptional quality, the judging panel may decide to grant the award to more than one entry. The judging process will be conducted by an independent panel of experts, and all decisions will be final. The finalists will be notified of their results on or before 31 July 2022.
