HK Prize is an annual event that celebrates and supports Hong Kong’s diversity, equity, and inclusion. It is co-hosted by Justice Centre Hong Kong, the EU Office in Hong Kong and Macao, and Goethe-Institut Hongkong. The HK Prize brings together a range of people including leading experts in their fields, academics, journalists, and the general public to spark discussion and debate on how we can all work together towards the common goal of a more harmonious society.
This year’s hk prize 2023 has the theme ‘Our Changing World’ and encourages artists to explore different aspects of global evolution – socially, culturally, technologically and environmentally, as well as the ways in which these change our lives. 102 artworks were submitted to the competition, which is open to all Hong Kong artists, community artists, and youth artists working in diverse media.
The shortlisted works will be displayed at the Goethe-Gallery and Black Box Studio, along with thought-provoking panels, an award night, and a charitable auction to support Justice Centre Hong Kong’s work for displaced people. The exhibition will run from 1 December 2023 to 14 January 2024. All exhibited works will be available for purchase.
As Hong Kong’s long-cherished autonomy continues to erode, this year’s nomination of pro-democracy activists Cai Xia and Nathan Law reflects the need for the prize to “hold up a mirror to the ugly face of authoritarianism.” The Nobel Peace Prize was previously awarded to Hitler critic Carl von Ossietzky in 1935, Soviet dissident Andrei Sakharov in 1975, Lech Walesa in 1983, and Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo in 2010.
The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize aims to enhance Hong Kong’s scientific research atmosphere and showcase Hong Kong’s strengths in this field to the Mainland and beyond. It recognizes excellence in research, with an emphasis on innovation, and aligned with Hong Kong’s unique strengths and resources, helping people at the lowest cost, delivering the greatest benefit, and valuing all people equally.
Submissions must be made in English, and all information should be written clearly, without any personal or corporate affiliations. Any identifying information must be removed to ensure blind review. Submissions must be no more than 1,500 words in length and accompanied by a separate, blinded abstract.
